Bespoke Artistic Mosaic — Art That Transforms Interiors

Artistic mosaic is one of the oldest and most durable forms of interior decoration, adorning palaces, temples, baths and residences for thousands of years. At the Colibri Mosaic studio we combine this centuries-old tradition with modern design to create bespoke mosaic — wall panels, mosaic carpets, mosaic pictures and decor for bathrooms, swimming pools, restaurants and hotels. Every piece is made by hand, tile by tile, from the finest materials sourced from around the world.

What is an artistic mosaic

An artistic mosaic is a composition built from small elements — cubes of glass, marble, smalt or ceramic — laid by hand to form an image, a pattern or a smooth colour gradient. Unlike ready-made mosaic tiles, a custom mosaic is designed individually: we match the colours, tile size, technique and format to a specific interior. As a result, every mosaic panel is a unique work of art rather than a mass-produced product.

Types of mosaic: glass, marble, ceramic and smalt

Glass mosaic captivates with depth of colour, sheen and pearl or aventurine effects — perfect for bathrooms, pools and luxury interiors. Marble and stone mosaic are a byword for elegance: natural stone makes it possible to create classic mosaic carpets, rosettes and Roman ornaments of timeless character. Ceramic mosaic offers durability and a matte, modern aesthetic, popular in restaurants and commercial spaces. Smalt — opaque Venetian glass — delivers rich, deep colours and gilding familiar from Byzantine mosaics.

Applications: bathroom, pool, restaurant, hotel, facade and sacred space

Artistic mosaic excels wherever prestige and individual character matter. We create bathroom mosaic and hammam decor resistant to moisture, pool mosaic resistant to water and chemicals, decor for restaurants and hotel lobbies, as well as facade mosaic that withstands frost, rain and UV radiation. We also produce sacred mosaic — icons, images of saints and decorations for churches and chapels.

Mosaic-making techniques

We work in many techniques, choosing them to suit the character of each project. The matrix (pixel) technique gives a modern, geometric effect; the Roman and Florentine techniques allow realistic images with flowing transitions; the Byzantine technique with gold leaf lends compositions a noble glow. Thanks to a rich palette of shades and tiles ranging from 10×10 mm to 20×20 mm, our mosaic artists reproduce even the finest details.

The bespoke mosaic process

The project begins with a conversation about the idea, colours and dimensions. We then prepare the design and a visualisation of the mosaic in your interior, present several design and price options, and after approval begin the handcrafted production. The finished mosaic is packed safely in crates and delivered together with laying diagrams and installation guidelines. We also offer full installation.

Over 3000 shades — a palette without limits

Colour is the heart of every mosaic. We command a palette of more than 3000 shades of glass, smalt, marble and ceramic, so we can reproduce any image — from delicate pastel gradients to rich, high-contrast compositions. We combine matte, glossy, pearl, aventurine and mirror tiles to build depth and a play of light impossible to achieve with an ordinary tile. It is precisely this richness of palette that makes a mosaic picture look alive and keep its beauty for decades.

Mosaic carpets and marble rosettes

A mosaic carpet of natural marble is among the most luxurious features you can bring into an interior. Symmetrical rosettes, medallions, borders and Roman ornaments laid in stone become the focal point of a hall, living room or bathroom, giving the space the character of a residence. A marble carpet always looks noble and timeless — it combines classical elegance with the exceptional durability of stone and suits both antique and modern styling.

Durability and mosaic care

A properly executed artistic mosaic is an investment for 100 years and more. Glass and stone do not fade or change colour and are moisture-resistant, making them ideal for bathrooms, pools, spas and outdoor spaces. Care is simple — just wipe the surface with mild cleaning agents, avoiding harsh abrasives. Facade mosaic additionally undergoes frost- and UV-resistant treatment, keeping its appearance unchanged for many years.

Artistic mosaic — frequently asked questions

How much does a bespoke mosaic cost? The price depends on size, pattern complexity, number of details, materials used and the scope of installation — which is why we prepare every quote individually based on a design or photo. How long does production take? A panel measuring 100 × 300 cm is usually completed in around 1.5–3 months including installation. Can a mosaic be made from a photo? Yes — we create mosaic portraits, pictures and reproductions from photographs, client sketches or designer projects. That is what makes every bespoke artistic mosaic truly one of a kind.
